Covergirl Katy Kat Gloss ($7.99) is probably the cutest lipgloss you’ll run across in the makeup world at the moment. These obviously take a note from of Tony Moly’s cute cat themed items like Cat Chu Wink Lipstick and Cats Wink 3GO Mascara as let’s face it Korea definitely has a heavy influence on the US lately.
I think cat ladies and lads will go wild over these as each lipgloss is topped with an adorable cat head top. This isn’t a new idea by any means since a lot of Korea brands tend to put out packaging like this not to mention Paul & Joe is wild about cat everything however, it is new to drugstore makeup which does make it somewhat of a unique launch.
Let’s take a further look!
Well yes, of course, the appeal is the little cat topper on each gloss! I picked these up at Bed, Bath, and Beyond recently and was quite surprised to see such adorable packaging at the drugstore. You know me, I do so love kawaii beauty and these bring plenty of cute to the table. Katy Perry has collaborated with Covergirl a few times already with plenty of playful adverts and looks using Covergirl products but until now none of that translated to the actual packaging of the products. These are available in 12 shade selections and I assume they’ll be part of Covergirl’s permanent collection for a little while at the very least.
At a glance I thought they were going to be a revamp of Colorlicious Lipgloss but they are actually considerably more pigmented and most like the Lip Lava formula.
I don’t think Covergirl brings anything innovative or different to the beauty world with this formula aside from the fact these are a full-coverage lipgloss that aren’t matte. Thank god! Because I’m over matte and as you know I prefer a glossier lip look.

First off, they are heavily fragranced and smell and taste like sweet vanilla with a bit of a play-doh edge. That deserves mentioning for sensitive users. The scent and flavor didn’t bother me at all thankfully.
I did have mixed results with this formula. I purchased two shades one of which was Ninth Life and I quite liked it. It’s very thick, creamy, and applied quite well on my drier lips. I wouldn’t say it had a high shine finish but merely a sheen. It’s more a liquid lipstick formula than a gloss but it isn’t a long-wearing won’t budge formula as it can easily be removed by wiping it away. The wear is quite good though and I can get a solid six hours from it without migrating or feathering issues.
Tabby Tease was another shade I purchased because it reminded me of NARS Orgasm however, I didn’t experience the same results with it. This shade applied easily enough but it fell into my natural lip lines and had a patchy appearance with color clinging to drier areas on my lips if I didn’t exfoliate well prior to application.
I haven’t tried any other shades sadly which means I’m unsure if the rest are great or maybe Ninth Life is the sole shade that is awesome in the bunch. Let’s not hope not right? You can doctor up the formula by applying clear gloss on top as it’ll smooth out the patchiness plus give you a more glossy finish than the gloss provides.
All in all, I think Covergirl Katy Kat Gloss is worth a try out. I had pretty good results with the one shade I did like!
