Lipstick Queen Reign & Shine Lipgloss ($20) is a new lipgloss infused with crushed golden pearls that’s available in six shade selections. I always feel like Lipstick Queen releases so few lipglosses and always jump at the chance to try any new ones since typically the formulas are fantastic.
Reign & Shine Lipgloss was a little disappointing shade wise so when I made a purchase it was for merely one shade since the other five didn’t quite appeal to me. The finish does however, as I loved the idea of a golden shimmer shiny finish plus the formula is supposed to be quite moisturizing while adding volume and plump to lips with sodium hyaluronate.
Lipstick Queen Reign & Shine Lipgloss (0.19 oz) arrives in a clear barrel with a gold cap with a crown etching. The box follows through with the royal theme and has a Queen’s Sceptre decorating the side of the box. As always, Lipstick Queen does a fine job with packaging.
I picked up the shade Ruler of Rose which they call a sheer, warm petal pink. I wouldn’t call the shade warm but it is a rather delightful medium pink that has a good color pay off. I think calling it sheer can be misleading as it does pack nice color onto my lips. I was a little shade that the golden sheen that you see in the barrel doesn’t quite translate to lips unless you’re really looking closely.
The formula is thick and a bit tacky and sadly the flat paddle applicator made application a little streaky so I had to go over the color a few times for a smooth, even finish. I do think this was the applicator’s fault and not that of the formula since it wasn’t saturating well with the gloss. Once I did get it applied correctly it looked rather gorgeous on my lips and lasted for a nice four hour time period without moving around my lip line. It felt lightly hydrating but I didn’t experience any plumping. It has a vanilla flavor and fragrance.
Lipstick Queen Reign & Shine Lipgloss formula is quite nice. A little tacky but nothing uncomfortable and plenty of pigment and a good bit of shine with a decently long wear. The applicator is a bit of a deal breaker as it didn’t saturate well with the gloss which resulted in streaky application. I don’t know if I mind much since I was able to achieve some nice looks using this formula and even got some great feedback from some of you when I wore it in a recent review.
All in all not a perfect lipgloss but not a bad one either.
